Rotherham United have announced the signing of Caolan Lavery who has joined the club on loan from Sheffield United until the end of the season.

The forward joined the Blades in 2016 but failed to nail down a regular spot in League One, even though he did play 27 games in their promotion winning campaign.

However, those opportunities have been even more restricted this season, with Lavery featuring in just three Championship games.

With James Wilson adding to the depth of options available to Chris Wilder, a move for the 25-year old seemed inevitable and he has now linked up with the Blades Yorkshire rivals.

Rotherham confirmed the news on their website this afternoon and it will come as a big positive for manager Paul Warne who has been looking to add firepower to his squad all window.

Kieffer Moore was recalled by Ipswich and then sold on to Barnsley in what was a big blow for the Millers. The powerful striker remains Rotherham’s top scorer by some distance and Lavery will be expected to score the goals in his absence.

The Verdict

This looks like a good move for the player and Rotherham. Lavery wasn’t getting a chance at Bramall Lane so moving on was the right thing to do for his career.

He has good pedigree in League One and Rotherham will hope he can add more goals to their side in order to help the promotion push.

Warne has the Millers in a strong position and the play-offs are a very realistic expectation and Lavery will be relishing the prospect of playing regularly at such an important stage of the season.
