Reading forward Yakou Meite has penned a new deal that will see the former PSG youngster stay at the Madejski Stadium until 2022.

The 22-year-old came through the Paris St Germain academy and made the move to the Berkshire based side in the summer of 2016, only months after making his first team debut for the French side under Laurent Blanc.

He netted his first goal for Reading against Derby in January 2017, before scoring his first home goal against Birmingham in the Carabao Cup this season.

Manager Paul Clement was full of praise for the striker, who will be hoping to feature regularly for Reading after the injury to first choice striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson. The Reading boss told the club's official website:

"Yakou is a strong, powerful, versatile, attack-minded player who has demonstrated he can play in a number of different positions. At 22, he will continue to improve and I am very pleased he has committed to a new contract."

Meite had spent a large part of last season at French Ligue 2 side, Sochaux, where he scored three times in 31 appearances as Sochaux finished 10th in the second tier of French football.

The Verdict

This is good news for Reading, with Meite a useful player to have around.

The 22-year-old is powerful and has good versatility.

Supporters will be seeing the positives regarding this deal.
