Axel Andresson has sealed a move away from Reading, with the defender linking up with Norwegian outfit, Viking Stavanger.

An announcement has come on Reading’s official website this afternoon confirming the 20-year-old’s move, with further confirmation that prior to his move, Andresson also agreed a contract extension at the Madejski Stadium.

The centre-back’s new deal will run until the summer of 2020, with the player expected to return to Reading in mid-November, at the conclusion of the Norwegian league season.

Andresson made two appearances for the Royals last season, and has had two previous loan spells away from the Madejski Stadium, having previously linked up with Bath City and Torquay.

Now, the youngster is presented with an option to head to Norway, where he could be involved in a promotion push, with Viking looking to secure a top-flight return over the course of the next 11 fixtures.

Andresson departs the Madejski with Reading still searching for their first victory of the Championship season.

Paul Clement’s side have suffered two defeats from their opening two Championship fixtures, losing to Derby County and Nottingham Forest.

Despite a tough start to the Championship season, Reading progressed into the second round of the Carabao Cup last night, beating Birmingham City 2-0.

The Verdict

This is a good move for Andresson, who will be hoping to get some valuable first-team football under his belt.

The 20-year-old doesn’t have much senior experience to his name, but that could well come during his short spell in Norway.

Viking are at a crucial part of their season, with the intensity sure to hand Andresson a good test.

It’ll be interesting for Reading to watch his development in the coming months.
