Wigan Athletic have signed Josh Windass from Rangers for an undisclosed fee, with the attacking midfielder putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

The former Accrington Stanley man moved north of the border in 2016 and has enjoyed mixed fortunes with the Glasgow giants.

Whilst he wasn't always a fan favourite in his first season, Windass established himself as an important player in the previous campaign, netting 18 goals in all competitions.

And, despite featuring in the first few games of Steven Gerrard's reign at Ibrox, the Liverpool legend has sanctioned the sale of the 24-year-old.

The Latics confirmed on their official site that they had bought the player, with manager Paul Cook explaining exactly what he will bring to the team:

"Josh is an exciting player with an eye for a goal and he gives us further strength in attacking positions."

It topped off what had been an eventful day for the club, with skipper Dan Burn joining Brighton but returning to Wigan on-loan, whilst a late move for Lee Evans fell through.

The Verdict

This is a great signing for Wigan as Windass has the potential to be a key player in the Championship and is always improving.

He wasn't always consistent in Scotland, but few would doubt that he has natural ability with his pace, skill and how he chips in with goals.

Now, it's about bringing that to the Championship and ensuring he can be a regular in Cook's side.
