Portsmouth have completed the permanent signing of Anton Walkes, with the versatile youngster moving from Tottenham for an undisclosed fee.

Walkes joined Pompey in January on-loan from Spurs and made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut against Doncaster.

After that, he established himseld as an important member of the team, playing in both defence and midfield for Kenny Jackett as the South Coast side pushed for the play-offs.

However, injury prevented him from playing in the run-in and he was sorely missed as Pompey missed out on a top-six finish.

Yet, he did enough to impress and the club announced that he had signed a two-year deal, whilst they hold an option to extend that by 12 months.

And, Jackett told the official site just how pleased he was to land the 21-year-old:

"He’s somebody we obviously know very well and he had a successful loan spell with us in a number of positions. Anton’s still young and has a really big future in the game, so we’re delighted to be able to sign him on a permanent basis."

The Verdict

This continues the good work that Portsmouth have done so far this summer and Walkes is a very smart addition.

He can play in defence and midfield and such versatility is a great option for Jackett and will be useful over the course of a season.

As well as that, he knows the club and has a lot of time to improve on his game so this is great news for the League One club.
