Former Nottingham Forest youngster Aaron Smith has moved to Scottish Premiership side Hamilton after he was released by the Reds at the end of last season, the Scottish side have confirmed.
The 20-year old had impressed over the years at the younger age groups at Forest and was the top scorer in the U23 side last season.
However, he was struggling to get near the first team and was released by Aitor Karanka.
That decision was understandable with the East Midlands side making big moves this summer, bringing in club-record capture Joao Carvalho from Benfica, with the Portuguese player also an attacking midfielder.
Therefore, Smith was always going to find first-team opportunities very hard to come by in the coming season and will instead continue his career north of the border with Hamilton, as revealed by the Nottingham Post.
Martin Canning’s men were favourites for the drop from the Scottish top-flight last season but managed to stay up, meaning Smith will be set to line up against Celtic and Rangers among others in the next 12 months.
Smith was no doubt gutted to be leaving Forest but it’s a move that will benefit his career.
Forest are making huge moves this summer and it’s all about promotion for Karanka’s men and despite his potential it’s clear that Smith was not going to get a chance to impress.
Given that, he is better to look elsewhere and he will get regular football at Hamilton that will help his development.
