Karl Robinson is starting his plans for Oxford United next season.

The former Charlton manager has a good reputation for developing youth players from his time at Milton Keynes Dons and Charlton with Dele Alli being the most notable player to have worked under him.

Robinson was made Oxford manager near the end of March after leaving the Addicks by mutual consent, with his assistant Lee Bowyer taking over, and he has decided who he will keep at the club for next season, according to Oxford's official site.

Curtis Nelson and Rob Hall's contracts have been extended due to options in their contract while Ricardinho and Sam Long have been offered one-year contracts.

Joe Rothwell has also been offered a new contract and a clause in Scott Shearer's has been activated so he will stay for another year.

The Verdict

Robinson is the right kind of manager to develop the young prospects at Oxford, and it's clear why he was brought in. Oxford are consigned to finishing in mid-table, so they have little to play which means it is wise to starting already for next season.

There are promising signs in their recent form because they have won three of their last four games after initially struggling under Robinson, so this could turn out to be a good move by the U's. However, Charlton won't care because they are likely to finish in the play-offs after a good start under Bowyer.
