Young Nottingham Forest defender Adam Crookes has today agreed to join Lincoln City on a season-long deal.

The versatile player has been on trial with the Imps throughout pre-season and has done enough to impress manager Danny Cowley.

"He can play left-centre half, holding midfield, he's got a real versatility and there's no doubt he's going to make the very best of his ability," Cowley told the club's official website, who announced the deal this evening.

The manager will be keen to go one step better this season and win promotion to the third-tier.

Last season, he led his side to the play-off semi-finals, where they came unstuck against Exeter City in their first campaign back in the Football League.

Crookes follows the likes of Scott Wharton, Grant Smith, Harry Toffolo, Michael O'Connor, Shay McCartan, Bruno Andrade and John Akinde into Sincil Bank.

Last year, Crookes spent a month on-loan at non-league Guiseley before he was recalled by Forest in January after making 15 appearances.

The 20-year-old joins a long list of players to leave Forest this season, which include youth graduates Jorge Grant, who has gone to Luton Town for the season, and Tyler Walker, who has joined Mansfield.

The Verdict

This is a bit of a coup for the League Two side.

Crookes is somebody very highly rated at Forest and will most likely be a big part of Lincoln's season.

If the Imps can maintain a solid defence then there is no reason they cannot be promoted.
