Barrie McKay has departed Nottingham Forest, moving across the Sky Bet Championship to link up with Swansea City.

The Reds moved to confirm on their official website this afternoon that McKay had departed for an undisclosed fee, just 12 months after he arrived at the City Ground from Rangers.

McKay’s new club went into more detail about the deal, with Swansea confirming that the 23-year-old had agreed a three-year deal with the Swans, who begin their Championship season with a clash against Sheffield United at the weekend.

Mark Warburton took McKay to Forest last summer, with the winger making 26 appearances in the Championship.

He returned five goals and seven assists in that time, but found his opportunities limited under Aitor Karanka following the Spaniard’s arrival at the City Ground.

McKay made just six appearances during the second-half of the season, as Karanka led Forest to safety after an indifferent start to the campaign.

The winger, who has been capped once by Scotland at senior level, has trained with Graham Potter’s side today, as they continue their preparations for their return to the Championship at the weekend.

The Verdict

McKay clearly doesn’t fit into Karanka’s plans, so a move makes complete sense.

The winger looked good during the first-half of last season, and Swansea will be hoping that he can find that level of form following his move to Wales.

If that is the case, Swansea will be getting their hands on a very useful player ahead of the new season.
