Peterborough United have today confirmed the signing of Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings on a season-long loan, announced the club's official website.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony teased the signing of Twitter implying that deal could become permanent in the future, saying: "May have a sneaky loan deal to announce, a Championship striker who cost over a million not that long ago. And one we have pursued and will continue to Pursue a proper deal on :)".

Cummings joined Forest from Hibernian in the summer of 2017 but has failed to find his feet at the City Ground making 14 appearances and scoring just once.

He was subsequently sent out on loan to Rangers in January where he scored once in 10 games.

Cummings becomes Peterborough United's 13th signing of the summer following Aaron Chapman, Jason Naismith, Rhys Bennett, Josh Yorwerth, Tyler Denton, Colin Daniel, Alex Woodyard, Mark O’Hara, Louis Reed, Adam King, Siriki Dembele and Matt Godden into London Road.

The Posh chairman made clear that the signing also has no bearing on any potential deal between the club and Forest for Jack Marriott.

Replying to a tweet asking if it will lead to a cheaper deal for Marriott, MacAnthony said: "Not a chance buddy. They want to land JM, they will be paying full bloody price lol like we just did for this loan."

The 22-year-old is expected to go straight into the Posh squad to play St. Neots tomorrow.

The verdict

There is no doubt that Peterborough United mean business this transfer window.

It is a perfect move for both parties. Cummings has struggled to find his feet at Forest and will be given the game time that he needs at the Posh.

Peterborough have themselves a promising striker and if, like Darragh says, the deal can become permanent it could be one hell of a signing.
