James Husband has departed Norwich City, with the defender linking up with Fleetwood Town on a short-term loan deal.

Confirmation has come on Norwich’s official website this afternoon, with the Canaries announcing that Husband will spend time with Fleetwood on loan until January.

The 24-year-old has had spells with Doncaster, Middlesbrough, Fulham and Huddersfield across his career, but has been at Carrow Road for just over 12 months.

The Canaries swooped to sign Husband last summer from Middlesbrough, with the defender making 22 appearances under Daniel Farke.

Farke included Husband in his starting XI on the opening day of the season against Birmingham City, but the defender was substituted after just 63 minutes.

There has been no room for Husband in the starting XI since then, with Farke turning to other options as he looks to find some consistency to his line up at Carrow Road.

Husband links up with Joey Barton’s Fleetwood, who have enjoyed a decent start to the season.

Fleetwood have four points from their opening three fixtures of the League One season, with Barton’s side also progressing to the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The Verdict

Husband’s opportunities at Norwich were clearly looking limited under Farke, so a move makes perfect sense for both the player and the club.

Stepping down into League One should help the 24-year-old build up some confidence, which is only going to come from playing regular football.

For Fleetwood, they’re getting their hands on a player that will improve them, if Barton can get the best out of the left-back.
