Norwich City have confirmed via the club’s official website the signing of Marcus Edwards, with the Tottenham Hotspur youngster arriving at Carrow Road on-loan for the remainder of the season.

Daniel Farke has moved to strengthen his Canaries squad with the 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who has been part of Spurs’ academy and various England teams at youth level.

Edwards has managed to make just one senior appearance for Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino, which came back in 2016 in a League Cup clash with Gillingham.

Farke welcomes the teenager immediately into his squad at Carrow Road, although Edwards will not be available for tomorrow night’s FA Cup third-round replay with Chelsea, having not been registered.

Edwards could be in contention to make his debut for the club at the weekend, when Norwich are in action at Carrow Road, welcoming play-off hopefuls Sheffield United.

Farke’s side currently sit 13th in the Championship table, with a recent four-match unbeaten run giving Norwich hope of resurrecting their play-off push after a difficult first-half of the season.

Norwich currently sit six points adrift of the top-six, but will be looking to cut that gap when they face sixth placed Sheffield United on Saturday.

The Verdict

After recent departures from Carrow Road, Farke strengthening his attacking options was key and Edwards could be a shrewd addition.

At 19, the midfielder will be desperate for games, which he should now get at Carrow Road.

With Norwich still holding play-off ambitions, Farke will be hoping his new addition can hit the ground running, as his side can’t afford to slip further adrift in the race for the top-six.
