Millwall have confirmed via their official website that Steve Morison has earned a contract extension with the club, having triggered an appearance-based clause in his contract at the Den.

Morison’s current contract with Millwall was set to expire in the summer, but the striker’s latest deal will see him contracted to the London club until the summer of 2019.

The 34-year-old is currently serving his second spell at Millwall, having rejoined the Lions in 2015 following spells at Norwich City and Leeds United.

The veteran striker scored the winning goal in last season’s play-off final victory over Bradford City, which helped fire Millwall back into the Sky Bet Championship, before making a steady impact on the club’s return to the second-tier.

So far this season, Morison has featured on 20 occasions in the Championship, but is yet to score a league goal for Neil Harris’ side, who sit 17th in the table.

Millwall, who many expected to be battling relegation this season, are entering the festive period five places ahead of the bottom-three, holding a seven-point lead over Birmingham City and Sunderland, who sit 22nd and 23rd respectively.

Harris’ side face Middlesbrough at the Den this weekend.

The Verdict

Despite not finding himself amongst the goals this season for Millwall in the Championship, Morison’s performances have deserved more, with the 34-year-old a key part of Harris’ squad.

Morison will go down in history as a great servant to Millwall, and his contribution should not be overlooked.

More than deserving of a year extension.
