Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Mo Besic on a season-long loan.

After weeks of speculation, confirmation has come that the Everton midfielder has returned to the Riverside Stadium for a second spell, linking up with Boro for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign.

Besic was attracting interest from a number of clubs, after Boro failed in their attempts to sign Besic permanently earlier in the month.

However, Boro have brought the midfielder back on board, with the 25-year-old linking back up with Tony Pulis.

Last season, Besic was at the Riverside from January, making 17 appearances for Boro and scoring one goal.

His efforts from central midfield helped Boro finish fifth in the table, qualifying for the play-offs.

However, Pulis’ side were unable to beat Aston Villa in the play-off semi-finals and are now at the beginning of their second successive year back in the Championship.

Even without Besic, Boro have made a strong start to the season, and currently sit in the automatic promotion places after picking up 10 points from their four opening games.

This weekend, Boro face their biggest test yet, welcoming West Bromwich Albion to the Riverside Stadium.

The Verdict

Besic was excellent last season for Boro, with the midfielder making a real impact under Pulis.

Getting him back on board was something the club have wanted to do all summer, so Pulis will be delighted.

Now, attention will surely turn to strengthening other areas of Pulis’ squad, as Boro look to compete for promotion.
