Peterborough United have signed Middlesbrough midfielder Callum Cooke on a free transfer.

In a statement on the Middlesbrough website, Boro confirmed that the 21-year-old has signed for the Posh after 12 years at the Riverside.

Cooke has no first team appearances for Boro, but did feature in Tony Pulis’ side during their preseason this year, making an appearance against Rochdale last week.

The attacking midfielder has enjoyed loan spells at League Two side Crewe Alexander and League One side Blackpool in recent years, making 16 appearances for the latter, scoring two goals in his spell at Bloomfield Road.

While for Boro, Cooke only featured for their youth sides, making two appearances and scoring one goal for the Under-23 side last season, despite spending the majority of the campaign out on loan.

The young middle man has also played for at international level for England for the Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 sides.

The Verdict

There is no doubt that Callum Cooke has bag of potential, and this move will allow him to show it.

After more than decade at The Riverside, the young midfielder will now get his chance at a sustained run in a first team at Peterborough.

With the right guidance from Steve Evans, Cooke could turn out to be a terrific signing for the Posh.
