Ronaldo Vieira has completed his move away from Leeds United this evening, with the midfielder joining Sampdoria.

An announcement has come on Leeds’ official website this evening that Vieira has departed for an undisclosed fee, linking up with Serie A outfit Sampdoria on a five-year deal.

Vieira, 20, broke onto the scene spectacularly during the 2016/17 campaign, where he was key to Garry Monk’s side challenging for the play-offs in the Sky Bet Championship.

He featured regularly last season under both Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, but has struggled to force his way into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans heading into the 2018/19 campaign.

The midfielder made his debut at the end of the 2015/16 campaign, and has gone on to make 71 appearances for the Whites across all competitions.

In that time, he has scored two goals for the club, with one of those coming in the Championship.

The 20-year-old was handed the No.8 jersey ahead of the new Championship season, but since then, a move to Italy has materialised.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds will receive a fee in the region of £7m for Vieira, despite Leeds choosing to keep the fee undisclosed at this stage.

The Verdict

Leeds’ supporters will be divided over this.

Vieira is a talent, but if he isn’t in Bielsa’s plans, a move makes sense for the 20-year-old’s development.

For the midfielder, a move to Europe is a fantastic opportunity, with Vieira now having the chance to show his talent in the Italian top-flight.
