Liam Kitching has agreed a new contract with Leeds United, who have instantly moved the young defender out on-loan to Harrogate Town.

An announcement came on Leeds’ official website this afternoon that Kitching had agreed fresh terms at Elland Road, signing a three-year deal, which will run until the summer of 2021.

The 18-year-old will move out on-loan instantly, though, with the announcement also confirming that he will spend the first-half of the season on-loan with Harrogate in the National League.

It will be the second time the teenage centre-back has been with Harrogate, having spent time there last season.

After impressing under Carlos Corberan for the under-23s, Leeds sent Kitching to Wetherby Road a short-term loan deal, with the centre-back impressing.

He made 10 appearances for Harrogate during that spell, returning three goals.

Kitching’s most recent deal with the National League side will see him be part of Harrogate’s squad for the remainder of 2018, before returning to Elland Road on January 2nd.

The Verdict

This is great news for Leeds, as Kitching is really impressing in the academy at Elland Road.

Securing his future is a step in the right direction, as if he continues to develop, he could potentially be a first-teamer at Elland Road.

For now, a move back to Harrogate is superb news.

Kitching’s form there last season was terrific, and another six months of developing at the rate he did last season, could be great for all parties involved.
