Leeds United striker Malik Wilks has left Elland Road, signing for Doncaster Rovers on a six-month loan deal.

The club tweeted the news, confirming that the 19-year old would hook up with Grant McCann's League One side until January.

Wilkes is no stranger to loan moves, having played for League Two side Grimsby last season, adding to his previous stint in the bottom division at Accrington Stanley. He bagged three times in 18 matches for Stanley, receiving a League Two winner's medal despite leaving in January.

He then joined Grimsby Town, but enjoyed a far less fruitful spell at Blundell Park. He picked up an injury after six goalless games and returned to Leeds before his loan was due to expire.

Wilks is a product of the Leeds United academy, having signed a scholarship in 2015. Thus far, he's played just once for Marcelo Bielsa's side, that in a cameo as they were humiliated in the 2016/17 FA Cup at Sutton United.

The Verdict

The youngster was unlikely to get game time at Elland Road, so the move makes perfect sense all round.

It's also good to see him in League One, stepping up a level from last year. He impressed at Accrington Stanley, a side he'll come up against in early October.
