Tyler Roberts is facing an extended spell on the sidelines, with Leeds United announcing that the forward has picked up a serious ankle injury this week in training.

Leeds have moved today to confirm on the club’s official website that Roberts will not be in action for a significant period, after scans revealed that the forward has a small crack on his shin, which will need further assessment before the club can put a timescale on his absence.

Leeds moved to bring Roberts to Elland Road from West Bromwich Albion on deadline day, with the 19-year-old arriving to solve Leeds’ striking problems in the Championship.

However, the Whites have been unable to hand the youngster a debut due to a series of knocks, with Roberts’ wait for a chance now unlikely to come in the foreseeable future.

Roberts is the latest name to be added to the absentee list at Elland Road, with Liam Cooper, Gaetano Berardi and Samuel Saiz all out suspended, whilst Luke Ayling is out for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side currently sit 11th in the Championship table, eight points adrift of the top-six.

Leeds face Bristol City on Sunday, before travelling to Derby County the following week.

The Verdict

Leeds have had no luck since New Year, with the club’s playing squad plagued by injuries and suspensions.

Roberts’ absence rubs salt in that particular wound, with the forward unable to feature following his move to Elland Road in January.

It is a blow for both Leeds and the player, who would’ve hoped to make a positive impact at Elland Road following his arrival.
