Leeds United have confirmed that Mallik Wilks has left Elland Road for Grimsby Town, with the teenage striker once again heading away from the Sky Bet Championship outfit on-loan.

Wilks has one senior appearance to his name at Elland Road, and spent the first-half of the season away from Leeds with Accrington Stanley in League Two, where the youngster enjoyed a largely successful spell.

The 19-year-old bagged five goals across all competitions for Accrington, impressing for the League Two outfit, who are chasing promotion to the third-tier this season.

However, Wilks returned at the expiration of that loan spell earlier this month, but will now return to League Two, this time to link-up with 16th placed Grimsby.

Wilks will remain at Blundell Park until the end of the 2017/18 campaign, and could make his debut for the club tomorrow, when Grimsby welcome runaway leaders, Luton Town.

Grimsby are without a victory since early December, with Russell Slade’s side enduring a miserable turn of results over the Christmas period and early 2018.

The Verdict

From Leeds’ point of view, Wilks heading back out on-loan makes perfect sense, with it looking unlikely that Thomas Christiansen was going to hand the youngster a chance in the first-team.

The 19-year-old impressed at Accrington without really nailing down a starting berth, which will be something he is keen to do at Grimsby.

Wilks will be hoping that two loan spells away from Elland Road open the door for an opportunity to impress during pre-season.
