Ben Gibson has completed his move from Middlesbrough to Burnley.

Middlesbrough's official club website confirmed Gibson's departure, as he joins Burnley for their Premier League and Europa League campaigns.

Burnley confirmed that they had shelled a joint club record transfer bid on the 25-year-old as he commits to a four-year deal at Turf Moor.

Gibson is something of a modern day legend at Middlesbrough, graduating through the academy and staying loyal to his local club throughout promotion and relegation.

The former England under-21 international played over 200 games for his hometown club, including every single minute in the 2016/17 Premier League season.

Gibson resisted Premier League interest last season to try to get Boro back to the top flight but after they fell short in the play-offs, he has had to leave to further his career.

The powerful centre-half has received a senior England call-up before and is rated by Gareth Southgate but now he has to be playing regularly in the Premier League to earn a place in the national side.

The Verdict

There will be no hard feelings felt by Boro and the fans will wish their academy product well.

Flint has already been secured as his replacement anyway.

For Burnley, Gibson is an excellent signing as he is still relatively young, he provides competition with James Tarkowski and Ben Mee and he will get better and his price will rise.
