Luton Town have confirmed via the club’s official website that Nathan Jones has put pen-to-paper on a new contract with the Hatters, with the 44-year-old manager making a long-term commitment to the Kenilworth Road club.

Jones has been with Luton for two years, and has helped transform the Hatters into Sky Bet League Two’s most entertaining side and strong contenders for promotion back into the third-tier of English football.

The 44-year-old’s former deal with Luton was set to expire in 2020, but the Hatters have moved to hand their manager a new four-year deal.

Jones has overseen 114 fixtures during his time as manager at Kenilworth Road, winning on 59 occasions and losing just 26 times, helping Luton become one of League Two’s most consistent sides.

Last year, Jones led the Hatters to the play-off semi-final, where they were cruelly beaten by Blackpool, who eventually gained promotion to League One.

However, this year, Luton look like going one better under Jones, and in early 2018 hold a four-point lead over Notts County at the summit of the League Two table, with the Hatters eyeing automatic promotion back to the third-tier.

Jones’ side take a break from league action this weekend, travelling to St James’ Park, where they will face Newcastle United in the third-round of the FA Cup.

The Verdict

This is huge for Luton, who can now start planning for their future with Jones in the dugout.

Jones has completely transformed Luton as a club, with the Hatters truly on the rise under his management.

Jones will have the perfect opportunity to celebrate his new deal in the FA Cup this weekend, before returning to League Two action and focusing on winning promotion.
