Bradford City have parted company with assistant coach Greg Abbott by mutual consent, report the club's official website

Abbott was initially appointed as the club's head of recruitment back in 2016 but took over as caretaker manager earlier in the year and towards the end of last season.

When Hopkin was hired Abbott was revealed as the club's new assistant coach but became the latest member of staff to leave the club this season.

The 54-year-old also made over 300 appearances for the club during his playing career.

Bradford are in dire need of a positive result. They currently sit rock bottom of League One on just ten points from 17 games and are seven points from safety.

Hopkin has seen his side lose their last six matches in the league, scoring just four goals in that time and conceding 16.

High-flying Peterborough United represent a tough task for a win, but having not been convincing at home all season there is a glimmer of hope for the Bantams.

The verdict

This feels like a decision that will have very little effect on anything at the club.

It seems the powers that be at Valley Parade have decided to sacrifice Abbott as a way of appearing to try and solve the problem.

Really though, the problem lies right at the top of the club with the two co-chairmen.
