Ipswich Town have made their second signing of the summer, bringing winger Jordan Roberts in on a two-year contract following his departure from Crawley Town.

The 24-year old will become Paul Hurst's second new face in a week, following the loan signing on Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea on Monday.

His contract with Crawley expired in May and he chose not to extend his stay on the south coast.

6ft 1in Roberts started his career with Aldershot, making over a century of National League outings, before moving north of the border to play Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Watford-born player also enjoyed loan spells with Tamworth, Bishop Stortford and Havant and Waterlooville prior to his move to Scotland. Having played just nine times for Inverness, he signed a two-year deal with Crawley.

Last season, he made 36 appearances in all competitions for Harry Kewell's Red Devils, scoring seven times. He's also been capped twice at England C level, the U23 international side representing the English non-league system.

The Verdict

Roberts certainly impressed in League Two last season, but this seems like a huge step up for him.

He struggled to adapt to life in the Scottish Premier League, but hopefully his two years at Crawley have seen him mature as a player.

Paul Hurst has been slow to recruit this summer at Ipswich and, so far, it looks like they might be in for a tough season.
