Norwich City have confirmed that defender Grant Hanley has signed a new deal with the club that will keep him at Carrow Road until 2023.

The big centre-back was a key figure under Daniel Farke last season and was named as Canaries skipper in the summer.

However, the Scotland international has made just six appearances this season, with a quadricep injury preventing him from featuring in the past ten weeks.

Yet, Hanley is still a major part of Farke's plans moving forward and the club announced on their website that he had put pen-to-paper on a new five-year deal.

And, the 26-year-old was delighted to commit his future to the Yellows:

"I’m over the moon. When I first heard it might happen I was buzzing and I just wanted to get it done as soon as I could.

"From the moment I walked in the door I felt so welcome, everyone around the place from the staff, the fans and the players have been absolutely brilliant."

The former Blackburn man is stepping up his return from the injury and when he is fit and available he will be helping a Norwich side that are flying high.

Farke's men currenly lead the way in the Championship having won five games in a row ahead of their clash against Swansea next week.

The Verdict

This is very good news for Norwich as Hanley performed very well last season and is clearly an important figure in the eyes of Farke who made him captain.

The player will be delighted with how the team are performing and clearly sees a lot of potential with the club by signing a long-term deal.

Now, it's about getting back fit and helping the side in what could be a memorable campaign.
