West Bromwich have today confirmed the signing of winger Bakary Sako on a season-long contract, the club's official website announced

Sako was released by Crystal Palace at the end of last season and becomes the club's tenth signing since the summer and manager Darren Moore is delighted with the acquisition.

“He brings competition to the group and a know-how of this division," Moore told the club's media.

"He’s been a credit to himself while he’s been training with us and I can vouch for the fact that the way he has committed to us has been exceptional."

The Mali international made his name with West Brom's local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers scoring 38 goals in 124 appearances in the second tier.

He enjoyed a good start with Crystal Palace in the Premier League last season but injuries led to him dropping down the pecking order and was limited to substitute appearances, scoring eight goals in 50 appearances.

The Baggies currently sit top of the Championship table with ten games played and also boast the best attack in the division, scoring 25 goals.

It will not be easy for Sako to break into his new side, with the front four of Dwight Gayle, Jay Rodriguez, Harvey Barnes and Matt Phillips scoring 20 goals between them already this season in the Championship alone.

The Verdict

Sako is a top signing for the Baggies.

He will provide crucial competition for what has been an electric front four which can only make everybody better in the process.

Their greatest asset is undoubtedly their attack so it makes sense to make it as strong as possible.
