Ched Evans and Regan Slater have both completed moves away from Bramall Lane ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, with the Sheffield United duo departing on-loan.

The Blades have moved to confirm the news this afternoon on their official website, with Evans heading to Fleetwood Town and Slater set to develop at Carlisle United.

Evans returned to South Yorkshire last summer, but found his 2017/18 campaign plagued by injuries, as Chris Wilder’s side challenged for the play-offs back in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Welshman will build on those 13 appearances during a season-long loan with Fleetwood in League One, where he will work with Joey Barton.

Slater, 18, made just two appearances last season, but is now set for a loan spell with Carlisle United during the upcoming season.

In terms of incomings at Bramall Lane, Wilder has been cautious with the business he has done ahead of the 2018/19 Championship campaign.

Dean Henderson has arrived to add to Wilder’s goalkeeping options, with the Blades swooping to secure the service of the Manchester United player, who enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Fleetwood Town last season.

Yesterday, Sheffield United smashed their club-record transfer fee to secure the service of John Egan from Brentford.

The Verdict

It was hard to see Evans or Slater getting much game time under Wilder next season, with the Sheffield United boss looking to reshape his playing squad with quality over quantity.

Both players have plenty of quality, but these loan spells should help.

Evans needs to get back up to full fitness, whilst Slater needs more experience.
