Aston Villa have confirmed on their official website that former Reading boss Steve Clarke will join up with Roberto Di Matteo in a major overhaul of the club’s coaching staff.
The Scotsman will go back to being an assistant, having been out of work since being axed by the Royals amid a botched move to Fulham in December.
While his career as a fully fledged head coach has not worked out as hoped, the 52-year old has extensive experience in assisting, having done so at major clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea.
A major overhaul of the Midlands giants is well underway, having installed a Champions League winning manager to help return them to the top flight at the first time of asking.
Kevin Bond will also move to Villa Park to act as a first-team coach as the rebuild begins in earnest.
Though their major takeover has not yet been confirmed, wealthy new Chinese backers are set to arrive at the fallen giants in an attempt to right the wrongs of the latter stages of Randy Lerner’s ownership.
Will Di Matteo be enough to lead Aston Villa back into the Premier League?
