Derby County secured a late deal for Scunthorpe midfielder Duane Holmes, who has joined the Championship side on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old has proven himself to be a quality player in League One and was linked with a move to the second-tier all summer, with some of Derby's Championship rivals showing an interest.

However, it's the Rams who have landed Holmes, who scored nine goals from midfield last season.

And, Derby boss Frank Lampard revealed how pleased he was to bring the former Huddersfield man to Pride Park when speaking to the club's official site:

"I’m pleased that we’ve been able to conclude the deal to bring Duane to Derby County.

"He is an exciting talent and he can play in numerous attacking positions as well. He certainly fits into the profile for us in signing players at a good age for both the present and also the future."

His arrival was the ninth transfer for Derby in what was a very busy summer for Lampard, who has made major changes to the squad.

The Verdict

This seems a very smart signing from Derby, with Holmes someone that fits the bill in terms of the profile of players Lampard has been bringing in.

He is young, but has experience in the EFL, and will be desperate to prove himself in the Championship.

Holmes will have a big battle on his hands to establish himself in the team, but he has a lot to offer over the course of the season.
