Sky Bet Championship side Millwall have signed Derby County centre-half Alex Pearce on loan until the end of the season, the club have now confirmed.

The 30-year-old has fallen massively out of favour under Frank Lampard at Pride Park - making just one appearance for the Rams this season, which came as a late substitute against Reading in the first game of the campaign, and he has been a regular figure in Darren Wassall's under-23 side.

The central defender signed for the club from Reading in 2015, and has since endured a loan spell at Bristol City having made 57 appearances for the East Midlands club, scoring three goals during his time at Pride Park.

A vastly experienced defender, Pearce will add much-needed knowhow and leadership to a Millwall defence that has conceded 41 goals in the league this term, but has picked up in recent weeks.

Neil Harris' men currently sit 19th in the Sky Bet Championship table, six points clear of the relegation zone after a recent upturn in form - the Lions have won their last three league games despite failing to find a win in eight games before that.

The Verdict

I think in terms of defensive reinforcements, Alex Pearce is exactly what Millwall need.

He hasn't played an awful lot of football over the last year, but once he gets back to full fitness, he's bound to be a very good player at the back for Millwall.

They'll be relying on his experience and quality to help climb further away from the drop-zone.
