Burton Albion have this afternoon announced the signing of Darren Bent from Derby County, with the experienced striker arriving at the Pirelli Stadium on-loan until the end of the season.

The Brewers moved to confirm Bent’s arrival via their official website, with Nigel Clough bolstering his attacking line late in the January transfer window.

Over the course of his career, Bent has played for a host of English clubs, with the majority of his senior appearances coming in the Premier League – where he is also a member of the illustrious 100 club for goals scored.

The 33-year-old has been with Derby January 2015, initially on-loan, before making that move permanent in the summer of the same year.

The striker has made 86 appearances for the Rams during his time there, and leaves having scored 28 goals for the club.

Bent was a regular last season, making 37 appearances in the Championship and scoring 10 goals, but the former England international suffered a freak injury during pre-season, which has ruled him out of first-team action up until now.

Gary Rowett had not used Bent in a single matchday squad this season, with the Derby boss happy to sanction his move to the Pirelli Stadium.

The Verdict

Bent leaves Derby's promotion push for Burton's relegation battle, but with his game time looking limited under Rowett, a move probably suits all involved.

The 33-year-old has been a good servant at Derby, but others are now beyond him in the pecking order.

From Burton's view, they are getting their hands on a striker with experience, who will bring a lot both on and off the pitch in the coming months.
