Derby County midfielder George Thorne has completed a loan move to League One side Luton Town, signing a deal until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Rams' first team this season but has been a consistent performer in the club's under-23 side throughout the current campaign and will no doubt be happy to get some first-team minutes under his belt.

Thorne made the move to Derby County from West Bromwich Albion in 2014, looking like a thoroughly impressive Championship midfielder, but a series of nasty injuries have significantly stunted his progress at Pride Park.

In his four years with the club he has made just 75 appearances, scoring five goals and assisting six more.

Derby currently sit sixth in the Championship table with 26 matches played whilst Luton have experienced a very impressive return to League One action, sitting in second place going into the second half of the season.

The verdict

What a brilliant signing this is for Luton.

Nathan Jones has done a terrific job with the Hatters to get them into a position to challenge for promotion but it would be naive to think they did not need a couple of new additions.

Thorne is a top-class midfielder and if they can keep him fit he will be extremely useful.
