Derby County striker Charles Vernam has left the club on loan to join League Two outfit Grimsby Town on loan, as per the club’s official website.
Vernam is part of the Rams’ Under 23 side and joins Russell Slade’s side as they sit 15th in the fourth tier for his third loan spell away from the club he joined from Scunthorpe United in 2012.
He played in League One with Coventry City last season and has also spent time in Iceland with ÍB Vestmannaeyja in 2016.
He suffered a knee injury in April that has stunted his development but returned to action in October and will hope that he can nail down a place in the Mariners’ first team and continue to improve.
It makes total sense to loan him out. He is not going to contribute to Derby’s promotion push and after missing a chunk of football last season, he needs games.
Gary Rowett will be hoping that he gets a run in the side and bangs in some goals.
