Frank Lampard has taken his first steps into management, taking charge of Derby County on a three-year deal.

Confirmation has come this morning from the Rams that the ex-Chelsea and England midfielder will take charge at Pride Park with immediate effect.

Lampard has agreed a three-year deal with Derby, with the 39-year-old taking his first steps into management following his retirement from playing.

During an illustrious playing career, Lampard won numerous Premier League and FA Cup titles with Chelsea, alongside a Champions League and Europa League.

The midfielder, who also represented West Ham United and Man City in the Premier League, was an England regular, winning over 100 caps for the national side.

Following an impressive playing career, Lampard will now be tested in the dugout, taking charge of a Derby County side who finished sixth in the Sky Bet Championship last season.

Gary Rowett led Derby to the play-offs, but Fulham ended their promotion hopes in the semi-finals.

Since then, Rowett has left Pride Park, linking up with Stoke on a three-year deal, which has paved the way for Lampard to take over at Derby.

The Verdict

This is a really exciting appointment for Derby, with Lampard sure to bring something fresh to the table.

The midfielder is a born winner, which he has showed throughout his career.

Since stepping into punditry, the 39-year-old has shown real knowledge of the game and Derby fans should be encouraged by his arrival.

Of course, he is inexperienced, but Derby have turned to proven managers in the past, which hasn’t worked.

A fresh approach is just what was needed.
