Charlton Athletic have confirmed they have completed the signing of Darren Pratley.

The 33-year-old joins on a free transfer after his contract with Bolton came to an end at the end of last season.

Formerly of Swansea, Pratley has dropped down for the Championship in hope of helping the Addicks gain promotion from League One.

Pratley becomes manager Lee Bowyer’s second signing of the summer after securing the services of Lyle Taylor from Wimbledon.

Having captained Bolton last season, the midfielder will add extensive experience in what is a relatively young Charlton side.

The London club’s new addition played a total of 35 times for Bolton as they narrowly avoided relegation to the third tier, scoring two goals and assisting three.

Pratley has signed a two-year-deal with the Addicks.

The Verdict

Charlton made a very shrewd acquisition ahead of the new season in sealing the signature of the former Bolton captain.

The 33-year-old will add competition for places that was lacking last season in an Addicks side that missed out on a play-off final and potential promotion to the Championship.

Pratley has an engine on him and even at 33-years-old, will be a decent player to have in a League One promotion battle.

He knows how to get promotion, and knows that it takes to achieve that goal.

Back in London after spells up north and in Wales with Swansea Pratley could settle easily being back in his hime city.

Regardless of his age, the signing is a good one for Charlton and will add a much needed competitive edge to the squad that was sorely lacking towards the end of last season.
