Barnsley have announced their second January signing of the month as left-back Dani Pinillos joined the club on a two-and-a-half year deal from Spanish side Cordoba.
The Spaniard is accustomed to English football having spent the two previous seasons at Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.
Although he struggled with injuries, Pinillos made himself a fans favourite at the City Ground after scoring a very late equaliser against local rivals Derby County last season – his only goal for the club.
Having then returned to former side Cordoba, the left-back is on the move again with the Tykes confirming the news on their website this afternoon.
He will be a welcome addition for Paul Heckingbottom who had to play right-back Andy Yiadom as a makeshift left-back for the goalless draw against Wolves last week.
Pinillos is known for his ability on the ball as well as having the physique to cope with the demands of the Championship.
The 25-year old links up with a Barnsley side that currently sit 19th in the division and just three points ahead of the relegation zone ahead of tomorrow’s game against Aston Villa.
This is a smart signing from Barnsley as Pinillos is perfectly capable at this level, the main worry will be his injury record.
He has suffered with various problems over the years and it did impact his two years at Forest but if he is out on the pitch there’s no doubting his quality.
It was an area that needed strengthening and a good move from the Tykes.
