Bristol City have announced the signing of Scunthorpe winger Hakeeb Adelakun on a free transfer after his contract had expired with the League One club.

The 22-year old had a fine season for The Iron last time, impressing with his pace, direct style and skill from out wide.

That prompted reports that several clubs from the top two tiers were interested in the player and it's the Robins who have won the race, confirming on their website that he has signed a three-year deal with the club.

And, manager Lee Johnson revealed he was delighted to finalise the deal and compared the youngster to two former Ashton Gate favourites.

"Hakeeb is an exciting prospect, one I’m looking forward to working with. We have made numerous signings of his ilk, with various levels of success, but in my opinion he has the potential to replicate the form displayed by Albert Adomah and Yannick Bolasie."

"If everything is aligned and his attitude is as we expect, he will go on to have a career in the top flight because he certainly has the talent."

The Verdict

This is a good deal for Bristol City and they have beaten off competition from a lot of clubs for his signature.

Clearly, he is a player that Johnson has high hopes for but he needs to prove himself in the Championship first.

For the fans, this is some much-needed good news after the Robins had lost Bobby Reid and Aden Flint in the past few days.
