Bradford City have moved to appoint Anton McElhone as the club’s new assistant head-coach, with Valley Parade recruit set to work closely alongside David Hopkin.

The struggling Bantams announced the news this afternoon on their official website, with McElhone arriving after a spell with MLS side New England Revolution.

Previously, McElhone has worked with Tottenham and Hibernian, with his new role at Valley Parade set to see him work closely with Hopkin, who is desperately trying to turn Bradford’s season around.

The Bantams are currently at the foot of the League One table, with Hopkin’s side already seven points adrift of safety as we enter the crucial festive period.

Hopkin’s side face Plymouth Argyle next weekend in a huge clash between two relegation threatened sides.

However, Bradford can enter that clash in a confident mood after a morale boosting performance and result in the second round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

Despite trailing 2-0 to League One rivals, Peterborough United, Bradford battled back with two goals in the final 10 minutes to secure a replay with Steve Evans’ high-flying side.

The Verdict

Bradford find themselves in a really poor position and the club is struggling to get their season started.

A new face coming into the background is never a bad thing, and there will be hope in West Yorkshire that McElhone can bring new ideas and help Hopkin turn things around.

The Bantams need something to change quickly, though.
