Bolton Wanderers have completed the loan signing of Remi Matthews from Norwich City.

The 24-year-old has signed an initial loan, with the deal to become permanent when the January loan window opens, the club confirmed.

Matthews was highly rated at Carrow Road but with the recent signing of Tim Krul, game time for Daniel Farke’s side looks to have dwindled.

Michael McGovern is the second string keeper that is currently fighting it out with the former Newcastle man for the number one shirt at Norwich.

Burton Albion, Doncaster Rovers, Hamilton Academical and Plymouth Argyle are recent loan clubs of the keeper who was most impressive during his time at his most recent temporary side.

After joining the Trotters, Matthews told Bolton’s official website:"I’m delighted to be here. This is a massive club that is going places, and the main thing for me is that I wanted to come to a football club with ambition.

"This was definitely the move that I wanted to get done. It’s a different scenery after being at Norwich for so long, but it’s a massive club that should be in the Premier League.”

Matthews will now battle it out with Ben Alnwick for the right to start in goal for the Championship side.

The Verdict

This is an excellent move for Bolton and the goalkeeper.

Matthews is a talent and will undoubtedly push Alnwick all the way for the number one shirt, which will, in turn, allow the two to improve having had fierce competition for places.

Plymouth Argyle fans thought the world of him during his impressive loan spell at Home Park.

Bolton will be able to have two class keepers on their books with Ben Amos out on loan to Millwall.

Their goalkeeping situation now looks to be sorted for the rest of the season.
