Bolton Wanderers have today completed the signing of Charlton Athletic striker Josh Magennis for an undisclosed fee, as announced by the club's official website.

The Northern Irish international has signed a two-year deal with Wanderers and becomes the club's 11th signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Erhun Oztumer, Clayton Donaldson, Jack Hobbs, Stephen Duke-McKenna, Marc Wilson, Chiori Johnson, Joe Pritchard, Pawel Olkowski, Jason Lowe and Yanic Wildschut.

The 27-year-old has made 80 appearances for the Addicks scoring 20 goals in the process, including 10 goals in 42 games last season.

But after the signing of Lyle Taylor it is likely that he would have struggled for game time next season, so a move was beneficial for all parties.

Magennis moved to the Valley two years ago from Kilmarnock after appearing in Euro 2016 for Northern Ireland.

He played a pivotal part in getting his country to France, scoring the winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Greece.

He has gone on to make almost 40 appearances for his country.

The Verdict

Technically, he is far from a brilliant footballer, but he is very good at what he does and if Wanderers play to his strengths, he can be a threat.

Too frequently Charlton were guilty of trying to play through their opponents, with Magennis struggling with that approach.

When they played more directly, Magennis' threat became apparent.
