The Ireland international endured a tough spell with Sunderland that resulted in the Black Cats relegation and was a free agent after his contract expired this summer.
And, Bolton have made a move for the 30-year old, confirming on their website that he has signed a one-year deal with the Trotters.
Wilson, who can play across the back four and as a defensive midfielder, will add to a Bolton squad that survived in dramatic circumstances on the final day last season.
Speaking to the official site, Parkinson revealed he was delighted to land the player and highlighted his versatility as a major positive.
“We’re pleased with the signing of Marc. He’s a player who’s played at the top level in English football and also on the international stage.”
“He can play across the back four as well as holding midfield and is a great addition to our squad.”
This is a smart signing for Bolton. Wilson may have struggled with Sunderland but over the years he was a reliable performer for Stoke in the top-flight and he should still have a lot to offer.
The Trotters didn’t have enough strength in depth last season but he gives Parkinson options in all defensive positions.
Now, it’s down to the player to force his way into the side ahead of what will be another tough season for the club.
