Craig Conway has signed a new one-year contract with an option for another year, the official Blackburn Rovers site has confirmed.
The midfielder will be involved in Blackburn’s first season back in the Championship, after worries that he would move on with his contract set to run out.
He has been with the club since 2014, so he has been one of the constants in a time of significant change, but the club is now at the start of a promising period.
Conway made 24 league appearances and chipped in with two goals and three assists from the wings last season.
This helped Blackburn to a second place finish in a dominant campaign, which helped make up for the sheer disappointment from the season before and avoids any financial difficulties from an extended stay in League One.
Business has been good for Rovers recently because Danny Graham signed a new contract and Conway has now joined him with both being important players last season.
Keeping together the core from last season is key because ultimately it brought success, so they should build on that platform rather than overhauling it.
They need stability so ensuring a stay in the division is the priority before they start making significant changes to the side by phasing out the older players. The 33-year-old’s experience will also be important off the pitch in helping the younger players and new players adjust to the team as well as helping guide the team through tough spells in the season.
