Birmingham City have completed the signing of Connor Mahoney from Bournemouth, with the winger joining Garry Monk's men on-loan for the season.

It has been a very tough summer for Blues, who were placed under a transfer embargo, which prevented them doing deals for players.

However, it was lifted with restrictions last week and meant they could bring in fresh faces under those new conditions.

And, they have now done that, landing Mahoney from the Premier League side for the remainder of the campaign.

The 21-year-old, who can play on either flank, has struggled for game time on the South Coast since leaving Blackburn Rovers.

Mahoney made a name for himself at Ewood Park after stepping up from Accrington Stanley, and was a bright spark for Rovers in a season that saw them relegated to League One two years ago.

Those performances saw him get a move to the Cherries, but he has since been restricted to cup appearances.

He will now look to be involved for Blues' next game against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Verdict

This is a very exciting signing and a move that could suit all parties.

Mahoney has great talent and could star at this level, but he hasn't played enough football in the past 12 months, so it could take time to get back to his best.

However, Monk is the ideal manager to develop his game and he will certainly add something to the side going forward.
