Championship side Birmingham City are in talks with Turkish giants Besiktas as Gianfranco Zola hopes to sign the Turkish international Kerim Frei, Besiktas have confirmed.

The 23-year-old winger is set to make a return to England, having spent four seasons in Turkey with Besiktas.

Having spent the end of his youth career and the primitive years of his senior career in the Premier League with Fulham, the Turkish international is familiar to life in English football, both in the Premier League and the Championship.

With Gianfranco Zola looking to add a winger to Birmingham City's squad, it appears that Kerim Frei may be the answer to Birmingham's problems.

It is believed that Birmingham City will be paying a figure in the region of £2.5 million to prise the Turkish international away from Besiktas.

The arrival of Kerim Frei would be Gianfranco Zola's fourth signing of the window as he looks to shape the squad to his own liking.
