Birmingham City have today announced that the club have parted ways with manager Gary Rowett in a statement posted on their official website.
The 42-year-old moved to St. Andrew’s back in 2014 and took over the Blues in difficult circumstances, leading the club up the Championship table.
This season, they’ve been in the mix for the top six, sitting level on points with Sheffield Wednesday and won last night against Ipswich Town.
It’s a rather surprising decision considering the former Burton manager’s work in the Second City, with the statement claiming the club’s owners are aiming to lead the club into a bright and exciting future.
Rowett’s backroom staff have also seen their deals terminated with immediate effect and the club stress an immediate replacement will be sought.
They also reveal funds will be made available for the new man with the January transfer window just around the corner.
“Such a parting of the ways is always difficult, particularly so on a personal level as I have worked very closely with Gary and have got to know him well”, said club Director Panos Pavlakis.
”Our relationship was very strong but in football you can never stand still. ”
