Barnsley are showing promising signs under Daniel Stendel this season and many fans will be hoping he is the man to lead them back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

The good news doesn't stop at the club, with a youngster extending his contract with the Tykes.

It was announced Barnsley's official website that Jacob Brown has signed a new deal with the club to extend his stay at Oakwell until the summer of 2021.

Brown, 20, has made remarkable progress in recent years, having developed through the club's academy, he has now established himself as a regular in Stendel's first-team.

The young forward has made 11 starts for the Tykes as they target an immediate return to the Championship following relegation last season.

He has netted twice already this season and will be keen to build on some impressive performances for the Tykes.

Brown will be hoping to continue his run in the side when Barnsley host league-leaders, Portsmouth, in what will be their toughest test of the season so far.

The Verdict

This is excellent news for both parties.

Brown has been impressive this year and can play a crucial role in firing Barnsley back into the Championship.

He does have competition for a starting spot with Kieffer Moore likely to be first-choice striker at Oakwell, but he will be hoping to make the most of his time in the starting XI over the festive period.

He is the future of the club and will be hoping to develop as a player in the early stages of his career.
