Barnsley striker Jacob Brown has signed a new deal with the Tykes, with the youngster’s stay extended until 2020.

The 19-year-old has been in exceptional form for the U23 side at Oakwell this season, and his been rewarded for his exploits in front of goal with an extension on his old contract.

Brown signed his first professional terms with the club last season after signing from non-league Guiseley in 2015, and made his first-team debut under manager Paul Heckingbottom in earlier this year.

Touted as a future first-team regular, Heckingbottom was delighted to see the promising youngster commit his future to the club.

“Browny is a player who has been on the edge of the first-team a couple of times,” he told the club’s official website.

“We asked him last season to continue listening and working hard, he has done that well.

“It’s down to him now to continue his progression.”

The Verdict

Tying up such a promising young star will delight Barnsley fans, who will be happy to see the long-term future of the club secured.

The Tykes were taken over by Chinese investors last week, and nobody is sure what direction the club will take now there is money in the coffers.

Developing local talent is always a sure-fire way to success, and the new owners will benefit from keeping the supporters on side by continuing the club’s excellent policy of providing academy graduates with a chance to shine.

Brown has the chance to push on and make a name for himself at Oakwell now, and must seize every opportunity afforded to him.
