Corey Taylor has extended his contract with Aston Villa until 2019.

The 20-year-old's contract was due to run out at the end of this season, but Steve Bruce has obviously seen enough to convince him to keep Taylor at the club for another season even though he has only made one first-team appearance this season.

Taylor has impressed for the reserves with three goals and two assists in 11 games. He is able to play as a striker or a winger, so his versatility could be useful in the first-team next season.

Villa are currently in fourth place with three games remaining as they look to build some momentum going into the play-offs, which means he is unlikely to receive a first-team opportunity in the league this season due to the importance of the remaining games.

The Verdict

The striker position is one of the weaker areas in the squad, so there is a chance that he could work his way into Bruce's first-team plans next season if he continues to impress for the reserves.

Regardless, it's good to see another youngster rewarded for his hard work especially because Villa could be in the Premier League next season.
