Aston Villa have confirmed that talented youngster Anton Hooper has signed a new two-year deal to remain at Villa Park.

The 18-year old joined the club from Barnet in the 2015/16 season and has made a name for himself in the academy since, impressing with his ability.

That has seen the club reward him with a new two-year deal, with Villa announcing on twitter this afternoon that Hooper had signed up.

It's positive news for the West Midlands outfit with a real focus sure to be placed on the academy in the coming years given Villa's well-documented financial woes.

Steve Bruce will be forced to sell many of his senior players this summer to comply with FFP after Villa lost the play-off final to Fulham in May.

Therefore, academy graduates could play a crucial role and will be given an opportunity to step up.

Given his age, Hooper's first aims will be to continue his development and then to try and establish himself in the U23 side.

The Verdict

Villa have a very good academy and they will now begin to get a real chance in the first team because of the financial situation.

Given that, it's important the club place a real emphasis on bringing through their own players which is why it's important to tie down the likes of Hooper.

Now it's down to the youngster to continue to improve and take any chances that come his way in the coming months.
