Aston Villa have completed the signing of Orjan Nyland, with the goalkeeper arriving at Villa Park from FC Ingolstadt.

An announcement has come this evening on Villa’s official website, with Nyland agreeing a three-year deal with the club, seeing him through until the summer of 2021.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been capped by Norway at international level, and has over 100 senior appearances under his belt from spells with Ingolstadt and Molde.

At Ingolstadt, where Nyland has spent the last three years, the goalkeeper has featured in both the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, making 48 league appearances in Germany.

Last season, the 27-year-old made 34 appearances across all competitions for Ingolstadt, as well as featuring for Norway.

Bruce adds the goalkeeper to his Aston Villa squad ahead of the new season, with the Norwegian adding to a number of options.

Jed Steer was the man in possession of the gloves yesterday night, as Villa kick-started their Championship season with an impressive victory over Hull City.

Villa eventually won the match 3-1, but whilst the game was at 1-1, Steer pulled off a fantastic save to keep the scores level.

The Verdict

Nyland has impressed in Germany, which is a similar level of football to the English game.

It shouldn’t be too difficult for the 27-year-old to adapt, particularly given the international recognition he has been given.

Bruce now has a decision to make after Steer’s impressive performance at Hull.

It’ll be interesting to see who starts for Villa at the weekend.
